5050 (2014)

"In 2014 I turned 50 years old. I didn't celebrate."

Type

5050 is 1000 feet of polyvinylchloride tubing; 500 feet is unintentionally, imperfectly knit and hung on the wall from a galvanized steel pipe; the other 500 feet remains on the spool wrapped around a galvanized steel pipe on the floor. The polyvinylchloride, followed to the core of the spool reveals a fist-sized, hollow ball of clear packing tape. Inside the ball, a crumpled hand-written note on a piece of scrap paper reads, "In the end there is only the end."
