Chalk Hill Artist Residency (2018)
C.K.Itamura is an Artist-in-Residence alumna of Chalk Hill Artist Residency, located on the grounds of Warnecke Ranch in Healdsburg, California.
Physical work on s+oryproblem :: 156 began during C.K.’s tenure as Artist in Residence at the Chalk Hill Artist Residency in 2018, where the quiet, uninterrupted time, the large well-lit converted barn space, and the comfortable accommodations within close walking distance of the studio, allowed her to focus on this project and provided her with the spaciousness needed for this undertaking.
Work on two additional projects, Vague Sense and Here also began during this time. The former was inspired by the studio space itself at Chalk Hill Artist Residency and the latter was inspired by the grounds at Warnecke Ranch, where Chalk Hill Artist Residency is located. This mounting of multiple projects concurrently — a feat which C.K. would not have been able to engage in in her smaller, private studio - was made possible by the abundant space in and around the Chalk Hill Artist Residency barn studio that the she was given access to.
